Lucky me again. Was planning on a short trip to France coming thursday. Did book tickets a few weeks back, also did book accomodation and have been in a good mood the last few days, knowing that it’s holiday soon. So yeah, that’s what was planned. After watching news on the telly a few minutes ago i am now close to blowing a fuse.
Union (this time it’s the GDL, that’s the train drivers union) is going on strike again. Not a day or two….no, they go on strike from May 4th until May 10th. That’s like six days where rail traffic in Germany will grind to a halt. Not sure yet if there will be something like a contingency plan or not, but from what i read on the news it is highly unlikely for me to sit on a train this thursday and go anywhere. Need to get in touch with German Rail tomorrow and see what can be done about the situation. I don’t really wanna push back my holiday, neither do i want to go through all the hassle cancelling reservations and tickets and all that.
Here is a little something for the GDL guys:
Roughly translates to:
Dear GDL, go fuck yourselves. Rome, Dubai and Paris already operate trains without a train driver and the Deutsche Bahn should really adopt that.
