After signing up for your 000webhost.com account you have to activate it by opening an activation link that’s send to you in an email to the email address entered during registration. This is how their system works, mainly to prevent bulk signups i guess, actually….i don’t see another reason than that. Normally this isn’t much of a deal, you complete the signup process, check your emails and click the activation link in that mail. That’s it, account is active and you can start uploading your website.
Quite often i get to work on tickets where users ask why their free 000webhost.co account has not been verified or activated yet. Lately i noticed an increase in such tickets and what caught my attention was that all of the users reporting problems with account activation used email addresses from major Email providers. Said Email providers are:
Out of a hundred tickets complaining about account activation emails not being received come from users using one of the above services. Since it weren’t that many tickets before the Google, Microsoft and Yahoo seem to have changed something and maybe have implemented a block for emails being send from 000webhost.com. Whenever i work on a ticket where a user has not received his activation email my first question is if he/she has checked the Spam and/or Junk mail folders. Sometimes users are lucky and find the activation email in their Spam or Junk folders, other times there is no mail from 000webhost.com showing up at all. I did some testing with Outlook.com and, as expected, the email shows up in the Spam folder of my new Outlook.com account as you can see on this screenshot. Microsoft SmartScreen classified this email as Junk and put it right into the Junk folder. The other email providers might treat the account activation email in the same way or block it entirely. Now, how do we get the account email activation email?
- If you don’t see the account activation email in your inbox please check your Spam and Junk folders
- If the email does not show up in the Spam or Junk folders then log into your 000webhost.com account and put a different email address (for this you can use disposable email addresses, like https://mailinator.com/ for example)
- Check your alternate email address for the activation email. If you received the email in your inbox then activate your account and change the email back to your primary email address.
When going for the disposable email solution then make sure to change your email back after activating the account. Else you might risk the account getting banned because of using a disposable email address (which is kinda frowned upon and 000webhost.com staff checks for such addresses regularly.
