No more cURL

000webhost.com no longer supports curl via port 80

I just noticed that 000webhost.com has made some changes to their servers that are likely to affect loads of users, and i am sure there will be plenty of tickets about issues with pulling data from external websites via cURL.

As mentioned on the helpdesk blog port 80 has been blocked for outgoing connections, be it tcp or udp. That port is closed for now, and chances are that it will remain closed for like forever.  Not sure about the exact “security reasons” that made the 000webhost.com admins block port 80 for outgoing traffic, but they will have their reasons.

Anyway, should your website use cURL to fetch data from an external website via port 80 then it won’t work anymore because of port 80 now being blocked. There isn’t a solution to this really, except you being able to fetch the data through another port or switching hosts.
